Endometriosis- This is a pathological process in the body of a woman, in which functionally active endometrial glands are located outside the uterus.

Most often the disease occurs in women aged 20-45 years. It may be asymptomatic at the initial stage. Endometriosis is considered benign. Endometriosis in terms of the incidence of gynecological diseases takes the third place after inflammatory diseases and uterine fibroids.

Endometriosis occurs when the functional deficiency of the hypothalamus-pituitary-ovaries system.

Factors that influence the occurrence of endometriosis:

  • chronic inflammation of the genitals,
  • endometrial surgical trauma (abortion, manual examination of the uterus, cesarean section, etc.),
  • constitutional - hereditary features of the organism,
  • immune disorders.

Types of endometriosis

According to the localization of the pathological process are distinguished:

1. Genital endometriosis (92-94%)

a) internal (70%) - endometriosis of the uterus (adenomyosis);

b) external (30%) - endometriosis of ovaries, tubes, retrocervical endometriosis, endometriosis of the vagina and perineum, endometriosis of the cervix;

2. Extragenital (6-8%) - endometriosis of the cecum, appendix, small intestine, bladder, lungs, eyes, etc.

The formendometriosis happens:

  • nodal,
  • diffuse,
  • cystic

  1. Ultrasound of the pelvic organs,
  2. x-ray of the uterus (hysterosalpingography),
  3. laporascopy (an optical device is inserted into the abdominal cavity in order to examine the organs of the small pelvis).

Treatment of endometriosis

There are two methods of treating endometriosis:

  • hormonal,
  • surgical

Hormonal treatmentinvolves modeling a situation in which a woman is completely absent from menstruation. During this period, the foci of the disease disappear independently. The treatment lasts about six months. High probability of relapse.

Surgical methodinvolves the removal by the method of laparoscopy (laser or electrocoagulation) foci of the disease.

Endometriosis can pass on its own after childbirth, therefore, doctors recommend pregnancy and childbirth to women who have not given birth.
