Virginia was born in the family of an architect and was simply doomed to design path. But before coming to terms with this fact, she managed to visit a model, a stylist and a fashion editor. In 2008, Meissen and her friend founded Agency Gustave.

The company was conceived as a creative advertising agency, but quickly turned into a decoration bureau. The girls began to design hotels, bars, restaurants, small private interiors and began to collect vintage furniture.

“Our concept sounds very simple: no concept,” says Virginia. “I saw so many houses in which everything was either subordinated to the same style, or built on the furniture of one designer, and they usually looked frivolous and lifeless. The hosts had to invite us to get rid of the smell of carrion. ”

Meissen's methods are spontaneity, attention to the space that was originally given, and shameless eclecticism. Her own apartment is the best propaganda of this approach to interior design.

“When the eldest son grew up and settled separately, I began to think about smaller housing (before we rented a house near Zurich), but closer to Aris’s school (this is my youngest) and to the office”.

Therefore, a small, about a hundred meters, apartment in the city center, in the house of the 1900s, was perfect for her. “We finally conquered the balcony with classic tiles and a magnificent view of the lake,” says Virginia. “I immediately presented how I would put tubs of flowers there and drink coffee in the morning.”

The modest size of the future home Meissen did not scare. “Here is everything you need. A living room where you can arrange my vintage furniture treasures, a spacious children's room, a cozy bedroom and a bathroom with a window. ”

Work began on the interior with a choice of wall colors. “I spent a very long time breeding two shades of green: warm, almost khaki, for the living room and cold, almost emerald, for the bedroom,” says Virginia. - Bright walls are generally my favorite technique, I often use it when I make out apartments with a small budget. The cost of paint is minimal, but the interior is immediately transformed, refreshed. And then on these walls just ask for some paintings, trinkets, souvenirs from long-distance travel, and I have enough of this stuff. ”

And indeed, Meissen from each trip returns with a pile of fabrics, suitcases of ceramics, handicrafts, old photographs and works of folk craftsmen. “Most, of course, is used in projects, but the most cherished hearts settle here,” she explains.

Each room in the house Meisen reminds of a mindboard, on which different pieces of her life are randomly pasted. “Oh, you correctly noticed that, that's how I work,” she laughs. - I make thousands of photographs, then I collect them on the board, solely on the basis of a mood, I show the customer and add something to it with him, or, conversely, discard the superfluous. This is how interiors come out in which you want to live. ”
